A December trial date has been set for Alexis Dubose, three years after she was charged with fatally striking construction worker Scottie Sherman with her car and fleeing the scene. The 24-year-old Dubose will face charges in a DeKalb County courtroom that include felony homicide by vehicle, hit-and-run, reckless driving, and speeding.
Sherman, 50, was working on a construction project along Buford Highway in Doraville, Georgia, when the crash occurred in June 2021. Investigators from the Georgia State Patrol allege that Dubose veered across three lanes of traffic before crashing into the construction zone and striking Sherman. Instead of stopping, Dubose fled the scene, leading to her arrest hours later.
The case has been a painful waiting game for Sherman’s family, who have voiced frustration over the delay in bringing Dubose to trial. “No remorse, no emotions,” a family member remarked about Dubose’s behavior following the incident, calling for the maximum sentence. They described Sherman as a hardworking father and husband whose life was cut short by an avoidable act of recklessness.
Dubose bonded out of jail shortly after her arrest, adding to the family’s sense of injustice as they waited for accountability. The charges against her reflect the severity of the allegations, including reckless driving, speeding, and failure to maintain lane. These violations led to a fatality that investigators say could have been prevented with proper caution.
The trial, scheduled for Dec. 12, is expected to provide long-awaited answers about what led to the tragic events of that summer night and whether justice will be served for Sherman and his grieving family.
