A strong performance plus three touchdowns in the first half of the game carried the New York Giants past the Carolina Panthers to win 21-19 in week two of the NFL preseason.

Quarterback Daniel Jones stood out with accuracy and backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor had an impressive throw in the G-Men’s first preseason victory Friday evening at MetLife Stadium.

“The execution was good,” said Giants’ Head Coach Brian Daboll about the game.

The Giants’ starting offense shined on its opening possession as Jones marched the team down the field 75 yards, concluding with a 4-yard touchdown pass to tight end Daniel Bellinger. Jones completed 8 of 9 passes for 69 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Newly acquired tight end Darren Waller caught three passes for 30 yards during the opening drive.

Big Blue’s second touchdown of the contest came via Taylor’s 33-yard pass to third-round draft pick wide receiver Jalin Hyatt with 8:13 minutes left in the second quarter. Running back Eric Gray scored New York’s third touchdown off a 9-yard run handed to him by Taylor as 1:38 minutes remained in the first half.

Panthers’ quarterback Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, showed flashes of promise as he completed 3 of 6 passing attempts for 35 yards for the game.

The Giants host their cross-town adversary, the New York Jets, on Saturday in the final week of the preseason, before hosting their NFC East divisional rival, the Dallas Cowboys, at home, on Sunday September 10.
