*YouTube has demonetized several videos on Candace Owens‘ channel because she allegedly “misgenders” people.
Owens is accused of hateful speech for misgendering or deadnaming males who suffered from gender dysphoria and identify as women, NBC News reports.
The conservative commentator said YouTube gave her “an option to delete every video that I’ve ever done pertaining to gender in which I have accurately gendered someone.”
Google spokesperson Michael Aciman said the company blocked ads on “several videos on Candace Owen’s channel for violating our monetization policies, including those against hateful and derogatory content.”
It’s worth noting that YouTube does not have a strong history of enforcing its censorship rules on racist content creators who disparage Black people (especially Black women) or videos heavily laced with the N-word. But call a man who “identifies” as a woman “a man,” and such language falls under the platform’s guidelines on hateful and derogatory content.
The platform claims it will remove creators and/or demonetize clips that promote “discrimination, disparages, or humiliates an individual or group of people.”
Aciman noted this includes “deliberate deadnaming or misgendering of transgender individuals.”
Meanwhile, in a video released in August 2021 on YouTube, Owens said the “trans movement represents a caricature of what it means to be a woman.”
