HBCU Football Rivalry Continues

By Andrew Rosario One of the oldest rivalries in college football will take place this Saturday, September 17th when Moorehouse College takes on Howard University at MetLife Stadium home of the New York Giants and New York Jets. The rivalry dates back to 1923 with the two teams facing each other 37 times with Howard winning 25 times, losing 10 with two games ending in a tie. The last contest took place in 2015 with Howard coming out on top 25-17.
The game was played at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. The press conference to announce the game was held at legendary Harlem restaurant Sylvia’s as both school President’s, David A. Thomas from Moorehouse and Wayne Fredrick from Howard spoke to the attendees which included alumni from both schools. New York City Mayor Eric Adams attended as well saying “l’m here because l love this classic.”
Both schools agreed to play the game under one condition. It had to be televised nationally in order to get national exposure. CNBC agreed to broadcast the game which will start at 3pm. Adding to the excitement of the game will be the halftime battle of the marching bands. It will be the Moorehouse “House of Funk” against Howard’s “Showtime”. Prior to the halftime show, the bands will be strutting there stuff Friday afternoon in Times Square at 3pm.
