Frankie Lons, the mother of R&B singer Keyshia Cole, has passed away at the age of 61. According to Love B. Scott, Cole’s sister, Elite Noel, shared the tragic news on Instagram Stories on Monday. Noel revealed in the post that her mother had just turned 61 on Monday.

“Worse pain ever,” Noel wrote. “To see my mama in a body bag on her birthday! My heart so f**kin broke.”

According to Cole’s brother, she died of an overdose that followed her birthday celebration per TMZ.

According to The Source, one of Lons’ grandchildren also shared the news on social media, saying “happy birthday beautiful and rest in heaven.” The 61-year-old became popular among fans in 2006 when she appeared in Cole’s reality show, Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is, which led to the spinoff series Frankie & Neffie. Lons’ show ended in 2009, according to BET. The two had a fraught relationship that was captured in the series.
