Rumble Is Set In Vegas In July

Waiting on Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. to face off in anything other than trash talk had become less likely than Dr. Dre finally dropping his Detox album. After spending the majority of their careers on the proverbial “other side of the street” from each other, the long awaited, years in the making, generational fight will officially happen on July 29th in Las Vegas.

Comparisons to Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns’ short but epic fight are always uttered, but this, this is actually it. July’s bout will be this generation’s biggest head to head matchup of all-time fighters in their respective weight class. Upon the announcement of the fight Errol Spence was chomping at the bit, saying “I’m truly excited to be a part of the biggest fight in boxing and the best welterweight matchup of the century.”

Terence Crawford, who never lacks confidence and bravado, took to social media to make his own announcement to the world and his opponent in Errol Spence Jr. saying, “Everybody come out, show support, and watch me fry this fish.”

Terence Crawford who was recently named not only the top boxer at 147 pounds but was also anointed the pound-for-pound number one in the world, enters as the favorite (-125) according to Ceasers, while Spence Jr. comes in as a razor thin underdog at +105. Although, the odds are tight across sports books throughout the world, Crawford seems to be the favorite in every single one of them.

Until July 29th feel free to argue who is better Terrance maybe the best switch-hitter in boxing history Crawford, or the sleek and elusive Errol Spence Jr. who just seems to get it done when he has to int he ring. However, once July 29th comes and the bell rings, the whole world will see in front of their eyes how two incredible styles will finally align.

The boxing world will hope for two things in anticipation: a longer fight but with the same action and intensity of Hagler-Hearns, and of course, two additional fights to follow. This legendary matchup deserves a trilogy even before they step through the ropes for the first dance. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take five years to get to a second date, like it did the first.
