A Tennessee mother of two had the shock of her life when she realized a stranger discovered her 10-month-old child was missing from his day care. Originally, according to the parent, the nursery school told her a teacher discovered the child was missing for a split second and brought him back inside the building.

On the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 25, Amber Giles received a call from the Building Blocks Academy day care in Memphis informing her that one of her two children was involved in an unspecified incident while she was at work, according to Action News 5.

Giles said, “They didn’t specify which child it was, [or] exactly what was going on or the type of emergency that it was.”

No one said anything to her when the children were picked up that night, but on the next day, the facility owner explained the toddler, two months shy of a year, had wandered outside of the door while two staffers were putting out the trash. The child, according to the owner, went undetected for a very short time— but was quickly recovered.

“She said within a split second the teacher noticed that Amir was gone and she picked them back up and put them back in the building and that was that,” the mom said.

However, a different version of the story was later revealed— and this one was supported by the Department of Child Services and a police report.

A man who was pumping his gas at a nearby gas station saw the child outside of the day care.

“I ran over there and notified the lady that was in the room,” he said. “And she was like, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t know this baby was even here.’”

He, in turn, contacted the authorities, who shared with the mother the full story.

Now Giles wants the day care to be held accountable for not sharing the actual information with her.

“I see that this could’ve been really different because it’s a whole lotta stuff going on out here, ” she said, before stating the day care doesn’t have working cameras that could have recorded the incident.

The Tennessee Department of Human Services, one of the agencies notified about the incident, released a statement about the incident, offering their support to an investigation into what happened.

“The Tennessee Department of Human Services will assist law enforcement and other authorities in their investigation of the situation as needed. The [TDHS] Child Care Licensing Team investigates within the parameters of child care licensing rules and regulations, and will take any necessary action as a result.”

Building Blocks Academy as a business has been operational for almost 20 years, according to its website. The school boasts a bilingual (Spanish and English) Christian-based curriculum that teaches children from 6 weeks to 12 years, “age-appropriate” tools for “Self-discipline, self-esteem, and positive behavior.”

‘You Got 100 People In There … and Nobody Is Saying Anything’: Father Outraged at Daycare After 3-Year-Old Daughter Returns Home with Femur Bone Broken In Half and No One ‘Knows’ What Happened https://philadelphiaobserver.com/you-got-100-people-in-there-and-nobody-is-saying-anything-father-outraged-at-daycare-after-3-year-old-daughter-returns-home-with-femur-bone-broken-in-half-and-no-one/ Thu, 13 Oct 2022 09:35:29 +0000 https://philadelphiaobserver.com/?p=4207

A Houston toddler came home from daycare with a broken thigh bone and her father said he wants answers. The owner of the childcare facility, which has been serving the community for over 40 years, has refused to speak publicly about the incident and has secured an attorney to represent the facility’s interests regarding the child’s injury.

Raymond Jones, the father of Janiya Guzman, the 3-year-old who broke her femur on Thursday, Oct. 6, says he wants to know what happened to his daughter while she was in the custody of workers at Walker’s Daycare Center, located at 8432 Livingston St. in the Sunnyside community of Houston, Texas, according to FOX 26.

However, according to the single father, he keeps running into a dead end as the administrators and teachers at the day-care facility are refusing to talk about the incident.

His young daughter is talking, saying one of the staff members named Ashley hit her.

Jones said when he arrived at the day care site to pick his daughter up, he saw she had a knot on her leg. Concerned about her well-being, he took the child to the hospital where doctors conducted an examination and took X-rays of her bruised leg. To the dismay of all in the room, X-ray results showed that Janiya’s femur bone, the longest, largest, heaviest and strongest bone in the human body, was snapped completely in half.

According to experts, “Because the femur is so strong, it usually takes a lot of force to break it,” with the number-one cause of femur fractures being motor vehicle collisions.

Despite that fact, Boston Children’s Hospital says it is not “uncommon” for young children to break the bone.

“Although great force is needed to break the thighbone, femur fractures in childhood are not uncommon,” the hospital informs.

Two of the main causes for the breaks can come from falling down a flight of stairs or off a jungle gym or if the child is in an accident or gets hit hard during contact sports.

Healing for a small child may require them to be in a unilateral hip spica cast, that would extend from the chest to the ankle of the injured leg.

But still, no one has copped to any violence perpetrated against the toddler.

Jones said, “They act like they don’t know anything, you got 100 people in there, and for that kind of damage to happen to this child you would’ve heard something, and nobody is saying anything.”

Florida police have arrested a couple for the death of their toddler in 2020. There have been numerous reports of abuse and neglect concerning all eight of their children.

On Nov. 6, 2020, 22-month-old Rashid Bryant was pronounced dead at Miami Jackson North Medical Center. The police report indicated the toddler had stopped breathing, and his mother allegedly waited 83 minutes to call 911.

Responding police said that Bryant had foam coming out of his mouth. The coroner listed his death as a “homicide caused by complications of acute and chronic blunt force injuries associated with parental neglect.”

Bryant’s parents, Christopher Bryant, 36, and Jabora Deris, 32, were charged with manslaughter and aggravated child abuse, WKRC reported.

However, according to the Miami Herald, the parents had been the subjects of at least 24 investigations of abuse or neglect. The Department of Children and Families (DCF) confirmed investigating the family 16 times concerning the couple’s eight children, as reported by PEOPLE.

The young Bryant suffered multiple injuries during his 22 months, including a fractured femur, a broken rib, and multiple cracks on his skull, per the Miami Herald.

When Rashid broke his leg in May 2020, six months before his death, Deris allegedly told police three inconsistent stories about how the toddler was afflicted with the injury. She claimed at different times that he had fallen off of a bunk bed or was dropped from a playpen.
