A mother is demanding answers after her 19-month-old daughter was allegedly attacked by another child at a New Orleans day care facility.

Cymande Ford received a call from the director of Angel’s Haven Daycare on Feb. 9 around 11 a.m. The director told Ford that she needed to get to the school immediately because her daughter Harley has been injured.

“I see Harley’s face, and it looks like she’s been mauled by a cat, so I start screaming, I’m crying, I dropped my purse, and I ask what happened,” Ford explained. “I took Harley, and I’m just asking the school’s director what happened.”

Ford said the director told her that her daughter had been in a tussle with another 1-year-old at the day care.

“Seven bites up one arm. She has a couple bites up the other arm. She has pants on, but the 1-year-old has bitten through her pants on both legs,” Ford said. “You can see the teeth marks. They’re clear and visible.”

The director and her daughter, who works at the school, accompanied Ford to the hospital. When the doctor started to ask questions about the incident, the daughter revealed another shocking piece of the story.

The nurse asked, “So, what time did this happen?”

Ford replied, “11 o’clock’ because that’s the time they called me.”

The director’s daughter interjected, “Oh no, it happened a little bit before 8 a.m.”

This made Ford question the day care some more after they waited three hours to let her know that her daughter was injured.

“It was hard enough for me to send my child to day care because I’m a business owner. This is just crazy for this to be happening on her third day after something that I already fought myself with so much,” Ford said.

Ford is the small business owner of the Ugly Betty Boy Crush jewelry shop located in Metairie, Louisiana. She said that the day care was recommended to her and it is only 14 minutes away from her shop.

New Orleans Mother Arrested and Charged With Stabbing Her Two Children, Killing One and Critically Injuring the Other https://philadelphiaobserver.com/new-orleans-mother-arrested-and-charged-with-stabbing-her-two-children-killing-one-and-critically-injuring-the-other/ Thu, 18 Aug 2022 08:36:35 +0000 https://philadelphiaobserver.com/?p=4054

According to Fox 8 Live, a 4-year-old girl died, and a 2-year-old boy was left in critical condition after their mother, 31-year-old Jenee Pedesclaux, stabbed them on Sunday.

The mother was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. The incident occurred at home in the 3100 block of Law Street.

Pedesclaux posted a video clip to her Instagram wearing a tank top covered with blood. The since-deleted post shows her crying as she said, “I’m dying. My children is dead. I’m dying! I’m done with life!”

Fox 8 Live was able to retrieve a surveillance video showing a man, who they believed was the father of the two children, arriving in a white pickup truck and then running toward the house. He is seen coming back to the car with both children.

Unidentified people from the neighborhood said that the father saw the social media posts by Pedesclaux showing the children were injured and rushed over to the house. After getting to the property, he reportedly broke into the house and climbed through a front window in an attempt to rescue the children. He took both of the children to the hospital after retrieving them.

According to police authorities, the girl died at the hospital, and the young boy was admitted and listed in critical condition. Pedesclaux was arrested at the scene and taken away strapped to an ambulance gurney. The New Orleans Police Department said she was booked into the Orleans Justice Center later Sunday.

Hurricane Ida Destroys New Orleans’ Historic Karnofsky Shop https://philadelphiaobserver.com/hurricane-ida-destroys-new-orleans-historic-karnofsky-shop/ Thu, 02 Sep 2021 11:01:53 +0000 https://philadelphiaobserver.com/?p=2791

Hurricane Ida has destroyed New Orleans’ historic Karnofsky Shop, where a young Louis Armstrong got his start.

In video filmed Monday and shared on social media by CBS42 reporter Jack Royer, a collapsed mound of rubble can be seen where the store once stood. Armstrong lived in the building as a young boy alongside the Karnofskys, a Jewish family that took him in, fed him and hired him to work on their coal and junk wagons.

Armstrong credited the family for instilling a love of singing in him, John McCusker, a retired journalist and jazz researcher who guides a “cradle of jazz” tour in the city, told WWL-TV.

Armstrong recalled the purchase in an interview documented by WWOZ, a jazz station run by the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.

“After blowing the tin horn ― so long ― I wondered how would I do blowing a real horn ― a cornet was what I had in mind,” Armstrong said in that interview. “Sure enough, I saw a little cornet in a pawn shop window ― five dollars ― my luck was just right. With the Karnofskies loaning me on my salary ― I saved 50 cents a week, and bought the horn. All dirty ― but was soon pretty to me.”
