Detriot police officials are reviewing a viral video of officers tussling with a Black man in front of a home as they attempt to arrest him after he allegedly tried to get into his own vehicle after locking his keys inside.

Witnesses claim that the officers unlawfully detained the man, wrestling him down to be handcuffed. The department officials say the body camera footage shows the officers took appropriate action after witnessing the man trying to break into a car on the street. The probe is to assess whether or not the cops’ use of force was excessive or appropriate for the situation.

Detroit Police Deputy Chief Melissa Gardner said there is an ongoing investigation and that the department wants to be transparent. In a press conference on Tuesday, Sept. 19, she said the detained man, who is in his 30s, used a coat hanger to try to break into a car on the 14900 block of East State Fair.

In a six-minute Facebook Live video broadcast on Sept. 18 around 5:30 p.m., the officers are seen roughing up a man. Off-camera voices criticized the officers, claiming they acted hastily when the man was not committing a crime.

Officers attempted to handcuff the man, who was wearing a Black Lives Matter hoodie after he ran onto a porch of a house. He resisted them, which swiftly escalated the altercation. One officer was even seen on the footage pummeling the man as they grabbed him.

Deaira Summers, 11, was attacked with acid at a Detroit playground. Not even a week after the traumatic incident, the preteen is speaking out about her harrowing experience.

According to WDIV, Summers played at Vernor Elementary’s playground with her siblings and cousins when a fight erupted. Though Summers wasn’t involved in the altercation, her family members were. Summers’ family said the mother of one of the girls involved in the fight handed her a bottle of acid. The girl then threw the acid at Summers and her family members.

“Two seconds later, it started like burning and went through my shirt, my shorts,” Summers told WDIV.

The 11-year-old suffered severe burns on her back, legs and arms. She managed to flee the altercation and ran home.

“I was screaming, and I was crying,” Summers recalled.

Summers spent three days at a nearby children’s hospital.

The whole ordeal baffles Summers’ mother, Dominique Summers, WXYZ reported.

She asked, “How does a child even think to bring acid to a park?”

To Summers’ attacker, Dominique said their actions are unimaginable and inexcusable.

“You don’t know what you did,” she told WXYZ. “I feel like it was the most evil thing you could do to a kid and especially the fact that she was an innocent bystander.”

Summers’ other family members are just as outraged. Her grandfather, Billy Summers, fears for her future emotional wellbeing.

He questioned, “How she gone feel going back to school? How she gone feel going on a playground again? How she gonna adjust to third degree burns all over her body?”

Dominique is worried about that too.

“It was a traumatizing event that took place, and she’s going to remember this for the rest of her life,” she told WDIV.

After being missing for almost three weeks, the body of Janiya Brown has been tracked down.

The teen was found last week near an abandoned car, which was parked in a debris-filled alley in westside Detroit. She had sustained multiple bullet wounds, and the black Chevy Malibu she was next to had been stolen a couple of days prior.

“Words can’t explain. My baby girl was right here,” the teen’s father, Jason Brown, said while visiting the alley in question.

“I know she couldn’t get away from these people. She ain’t do this,” he added. “She was forced to do it. She a kid, she a child.”

Brown was reported missing back on April 23 from Berkley, Michigan. While the teen originally hailed from Ohio, she recently relocated to Michigan to live with her aunt after her mother was killed last year.

However, just a few days after arriving in The Great Lake State, Brown ran away. While she was known to do so, she ultimately never returned after this last time.
