The former “Grey’s Anatomy” actor shared a message fondly remembering his perspective of Klansmen and women on Facebook and Instagram. Although he claimed the latter platform removed his initial posts, he re-shared it, where it still remains.

Washington shared a black-and-white image of an elderly Klansman sitting with a woman and a baby as a cross stood behind them.

Each of the members was dressed in the white supremacist organization’s distinctive white robe and hood, which was pulled up and revealed their faces.

The Houstonian’s childhood memory began, “I had some of the best elementary school teachers and even some neighbors that I knew were Klan Members back in Texas while growing up. I knew where They stood with me and They also knew where I stood with Them. The boundaries were very, very clear.”

The longtime actor, who found himself disgraced among his peers when he used a gay slur on two separate occasions in 2006 and 2007, went on to share that he played with children who did not view him as an equal.

“I just couldn’t drink from Their outside water hose or come inside Their house to eat and Their houses were usually much smaller than what I grew up in,” he continued.

Washington would note that his own mother never turned away his white friends when they wanted a drink of water or to have lunch with her son.

His reasoning, as noted by social media users, may have been to show that despite facing racism in their daily lives, the Washington family did not reciprocate it.

In closing, the “Blue Caprice” star wrote, “I can’t help but wonder today, if Their kids are vigorously supporting me as an actor today, simply because I showed Them love and respect as a true Texan and a true American, even when Their parents and grandparents forbid Them to reciprocate love and respect for me publicly to me back then, but I’m infamous now. I wonder…”

‘A Baby Is Gone’: Ohio Prosecutors Face Backlash Amid Demand for Charges In Killing of Black Boy Allegedly Shot Five Times By White Neighbor https://philadelphiaobserver.com/a-baby-is-gone-ohio-prosecutors-face-backlash-amid-demand-for-charges-in-killing-of-black-boy-allegedly-shot-five-times-by-white-neighbor/ Mon, 02 Jan 2023 11:59:34 +0000 https://philadelphiaobserver.com/?p=4486 Social media influencers and criminal justice advocates are pushing for charges against a white Ohio man who allegedly shot a 13-year Black boy multiple times and walked free, even though he was legally prohibited from carrying a gun.

Reports show that Krieg Butler, 36, was initially charged with murder for the Oct. 12 killing at the Wedgewood Apartments in Columbus, Ohio, but prosecutors asked to drop the charges days later, citing “standard procedure.”

However, many on social media are calling for Butler to be charged, with some launching #JusticeForSinzaeReed and rallying for others to call the Franklin County prosecutor’s office to pressure it to move on the case.

Atlanta Black Star contacted the prosecutor’s office on Thursday and was sent an Oct. 27 statement initially issued after Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Mike McAllister accepted its motion, filed on Oct. 17, and dismissed the case.

“The Municipal Court does not have jurisdiction to hear felony cases except for a limited period of time. It is standard practice for almost every felony case filed in Municipal Court to be dismissed,” the statement said.

The prosecutor’s office said, however, that the case is still “under review for possible presentation” to a grand jury, “and unfortunately, I cannot advise you when the case will be presented.”

Columbus police homicide Det. Keith O’Connor told The Columbus Dispatch that “there has been a claim of self-defense” by Butler and his mother but did not provide additional details.

Sinzae, affectionately known as Zay, according to his obituary, “loved listening to music and playing video games.” His favorite TV shows were “Snowfall” and “Power,” and he liked hanging out with his friends. Sinzae attended Kipp Columbus and had been doing online classes at the time of his death.

Dave Chappelle Responds to Backlash Over The Closer, Says He’ll Meet With Trans Netflix Employees but Won’t Bend to ‘Anybody’s Demands’ https://philadelphiaobserver.com/dave-chappelle-responds-to-backlash-over-the-closer-says-hell-meet-with-trans-netflix-employees-but-wont-bend-to-anybodys-demands/ Fri, 29 Oct 2021 21:36:01 +0000 https://philadelphiaobserver.com/?p=2995

Dave Chappelle has issued a response to the backlash following the release of his latest comedy special on Netflix, The Closer.

After weeks that included an employee walkout and protest and the firing of a Black trans employee who helped organize it, an apology (of sorts) from Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos in which he admitted to “screwing up” his response to the special and the suspension of another trans employee who spoke out against the special, the comedian at the center of it is finally speaking out.

Per Variety, Chappelle’s response came via a video posted to Instagram, where he addressed the transgender community, the media and claims that he turned down meeting with trans employees at Netflix.

“It’s been said in the press that I was invited to speak to transgender employees at Netflix and I refused. That is not true. If they had of invited me, I would’ve accepted it although I am confused about what we are speaking about. I said what I said, and boy, I heard what you said. My God, how could I not?” Chapelle began.

“You say you want a safe working environment at Netflix. Well it seems like I’m the only one that can’t go to the office anymore,” he continued. “I want everyone in this audience to know that even though the media frames it as though it’s me versus that community, that’s not what it is. Do not blame the LGBTQ+ for any of this shit, this has nothing to do with them. It’s about corporate interests in what I can say and what I cannot say. For the record, and I need you to know this, everyone I know from the community has been nothing but loving and supporting. So I don’t know what any of this nonsense is about.”

‘I Apologize’: Sage Steele Taken Off Air Following Backlash from Her Racial Identity Remarks Regarding President Barack Obama https://philadelphiaobserver.com/i-apologize-sage-steele-taken-off-air-following-backlash-from-her-racial-identity-remarks-regarding-president-barack-obama/ Sat, 16 Oct 2021 02:36:09 +0000 https://philadelphiaobserver.com/?p=2942 Sage Steele is facing consequences after making controversial comments about former President Barack Obama and covid vaccine mandate last week on the podcast “Uncut with Jay Cutler.”

The “SportCenter” host is being taken off air for a week after criticizing Obama for identifying as Black on his U.S. Census form when “his Black dad was nowhere to be found.” Steele, who is biracial like Obama, claims she would’ve wanted to mark both Black and white on the Census form.

She also caught flak for disparaging the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, which she was required to take by Sept. 30. She called it “sick and scary” that companies like her company, ESPN, and Disney — which she specifically named — would require their employees to be vaccinated.

It was also reported by several outlets that Steele has tested positive for COVID-19. ESPN put out a statement Tuesday, which is the same day her remarks went viral on Twitter, explaining their decision following the backlash to her.

The sports network wrote in a statement: “At ESPN, we embrace different points of view — dialogue and discussion makes this place great. That said, we expect that those points of view be expressed respectfully, in a manner consistent with our values, and in line with our internal policies. We are having direct conversations with Sage, and those conversations will remain private.”

In a viral video from New Year’s Eve, the rapper is seen singing along to her jam, “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion in an Instagram Live before quickly turning it off as her daughter, Kulture, walks into the room. The clip from Instagram Live immediately took off, while some fans began to question the rapper’s parenting after she defended her own risque lyrics all year.

Cardi B is now responding directly to some of the backlash. In a series of tweets, the rapper defended her decision to pause the song, explaining, “Ya needs to stop with this already ! I’m not jojosiwa ! I don’t make music for kids I make music for adults.Parents are responsible on what their children listen too or see. I’m a very sexual person but not around my child just like every other parent should be.”https://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?creatorScreenName=feedly&dnt=true&embedId=twitter-widget-0&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1346249566765502465&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Ffeedly.com%2F&siteScreenName=feedly&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550pxhttps://platform.twitter.com/embed/index.html?creatorScreenName=feedly&dnt=true&embedId=twitter-widget-1&frame=false&hideCard=false&hideThread=false&id=1346250309656477696&lang=en&origin=https%3A%2F%2Ffeedly.com%2F&siteScreenName=feedly&theme=light&widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&width=550px

She continued to defend herself in another tweet: “There’s moms who are strippers.Pop pussy ,twerk all night for entertainment does that mean they do it around their kids ? No! Stop makin this a debate. Its pretty much common sense.”

If her tweets confirm anything, it’s that Cardi B is going to continue to do things her way in this new year.
